University of Texas-Pan American
The University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg has been serving the Rio Grande Valley and South Texas since it started as a two-year collage 73 years ago. UTPA is the 5th largest component of the University of Texas System and the 10th largest public university in Texas. Approximately 85% of the 12,400 students are Hispanic.
UTPA is divided into six colleges: Arts & Humanities, Business Administration, Education, Health Science and Human Services, Science and Engineering, and Social Behavioral Sciences. UTPA offers bachelor's degrees and master's degrees in more than 50 fields. The university also offers a doctorate in business administration with an emphasis in international business and, in cooperation with the University of Texas at Austin, doctorates in educational administration and in pharmacy.

South Texas College
South Texas College, the Rio Grande Valley's newest higher education institution, was established in 1993. STC is a community college that offers associate's degrees and certificates in more than 50 different programs and courses. Classes are offered in McAllen, Weslaco, Rio Grande City and Roma.
The college continues to add programs, facilities and course offerings to meet the needs of the region. New programs are designed, developed and implemented based on workforce needs established through labor market research.
